Song: Possum Kingdom
Band: The Toadies
Album: Rubberneck
Release Date: 1994
From the first menacing chords through to the dramatic ending this song grabbed me unlike any song I’d ever heard. It feels like you’re reading some great lost southern gothic novel by Truman Capote. This creepy tune deals with obsession… and mental illness… and murder… from the point of view of a maniac, so it forces the listener to get inside the head of a psychopath… which strangely... feels good.. The singer, riddled with paranoia, takes you with him through his living nightmare drawing you closer and closer to a truly haunting conclusion… Boasting one of the greatest choruses ever, great rubbery lead guitar and solid rhythm section.. this is not just a song, it's is a crime novel... and it fucking rocks in a quintessentially 90s way...
